Urban Style Watch: Great China Wall Ink

December 6th, 2008

As the alternate line of The Great China Wall, Great China Wall ink has a serious urban flair combining tattoo images with graffiti or ‘Cholo’ graphics to represent the vibe of LA street art. Designs include handmade pieces with graffiti logos, the Virgin Mary, flowers, spray cans, and Chinese characters. The hoodies and pants are “tinted”. This is where each piece is soaked and rinsed through a dye process.
To follow up, the garments are given the vintage or distressed look as a special agent discolors the elbows or pockets. Finally, there is a screen print with a water-based, multi-colored ink and airbrushing. The clothing also includes an embroidered logo. The good news is that the line is a lot less expensive than The Great China Wall which averages between $1000- 1600 for a hoody. The brand definitely values the process that goes into the clothing and offers a unique style which is definitely urban chic.

Heidi’s mom gives them 6 months

December 5th, 2008

In typical mother-of-a-young-celebrity fashion, Darlene Egelhoff, mother of the Hills star Heidi Montag, looks like she wants a bit of the spot light for herself. Well, what better way to do it that to create some drama!

She has accused the 25 year old Spencer Pratt, co-star of the Hills with whom Heidi recently eloped, of controlling her daughter and cutting everyone out of her life.

“(When I heard they had married) I was devastated. I’ve spent many hours crying and depressed,” Egelhoff tells Us magazine. “I’ve been completely cut out because of Spencer. I didn’t get to shop for a dress and be involved. She’s too young to get married, and Spencer has cut everyone out of her life … I want the best for my daughter — and he’s definitely not it.”

She goes on to say that she doesn’t think the marriage will last more than 6 months, even going so far as to say that she wouldn’t be suprised if the results of a drug test revealed that Pratt had drugged her! Nicely done Darlene; you’re comin’ off real crazy right now.

The Great China Wall: Luxurious Hoodies or simply ridiculous?

December 4th, 2008

Los Angeles based clothing line, The Great China Wall is a high end clothing company, known mostly for their hoodies. Now, these aren’t just any ordinary hoodies, try crystal bedazzled jewels, quality cotton, and pigmented dye. This is not to mention that they are handmade and therefore, one of a kind. The hoodies are definitely ripe with the demands of glitzy, blinged out couture and tattoo inspired art, reminiscent of Ed Hardy and Audigier but much more expensive.

The hoodies range from $ 900-2000 and I must say, do look like they would be expensive yet I am not sure if that expensive. The brand also boasts cotton casual pants which include matching tattoo logos on the leg or on the back of the pants. These are also quite pricey at $300-500. Overall, the hoodies are great quality; it is just a matter of how much you love to wear expensive garments.

Rhianna teams up with Gucci to benifit UNICEF

December 2nd, 2008

Grammy winning artist Rihanna has partnered with Gucci to be the face of the new Tattoo Heart accessories collection. The collection has been designed by Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini who is very pleased to be involved in the partnership with UNICEF, which is now in it’s fourth year.

“Our relationship with UNICEF is a partnership that I hold very dearly,” said Giannini. “It is an exceptional organization that is able to do so much good in the world. Dedicating a campaign to this partnership is very important to me, and I think Rihanna is perfect for this campaign. Her talent, beauty and optimism perfectly represent the positive attitude that I hope will show in the campaign, which supports a cause we both truly believe in children.”

The Giannini designed UNICEF bag is white and features an image of a heart tattoo and the Gucci logos and colors.

“I love the idea of a heart being tattooed onto the handbags,” said Giannini. “It’s a permanent mark that you can wear with pride and that stays with you. I think that represents very well what we are doing here. This is not a one-off program, but rather an ongoing commitment to the incredible work that UNICEF is able to achieve.”

Rihanna joined Giannini in the Gucci flagship boutique on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan to co-host a cocktail reception that was meant as a treat for their guests. Among those attending to consider buying one of the pieces from the new collection were Kelly Rutherford and Becki Newton.

If you didn’t manage to make it on to the cocktail party guest list, don’t worry; the collection is available on-line as well as in stores, but only until January 31, 2009. Gucci will be donating 25% of the proceeds from the sales of the collection to UNICEF.

No nude scenes for Beckinsale

December 2nd, 2008
